Great news!  I removed the converter tonight. Low and behold.... the fuse holder. I found it buried under the birdcage of wiring and changed out the fuse. Its a 15 AMP automobile type fuse and immediately rectified my source of angst for many weeks.

This weekend I'm gonna install a panel mounted fuse holder or even another DC type fuse panel so if I ever need to add some other circuits there will be room.
