Buyer Beware... Warranty Problem

We have been trying to buy a new Rpod from A&L but can’t afford their prices.

We have found two used Rpod campers that are both still in warranty.

I talked with Lisa Sanders at the dealership this morning.  I ask her if A&L would do any needed repairs that are “included “ in the factory warranty.

Lisa checked with their shop manager and then told me no.  They will do repairs But the customer must pay them for any work up front and then try to get their money back from Forest River.  They will “only” honor warranty work if I bought the camper from A&L.

Is this the norm?

FYI, the factory warranty is NOT transferable.

Unfortunately, many RV dealers won't do warranty work if you didn't buy from them. Every time I see someone who traveled 1000+ miles to Couch RV in Ohio just because they were a couple of grand cheaper, I cringe because I know if they ever need warranty service, it'll be a pain. My convenience is worth a little extra up-front cost.

I guess I'm fortunate that the local dealer I bought from has treated me fairly, both during the purchase and when I had to take it in for service.

Sadly for some dealers it is the norm and why the RV industry lets them get away with this and doesn't go with the same warranty service like you have with a new car is beyond me? Maybe its time everyone talks to their state representatives to get your state laws changed!

Anyways.... DreamerTN my advice is do some calling around to independent RV repair shops. You'll find that many of them will do warranty repairs and that they will deal with the factory for reimbursement. Case in point my "dealer" never fixed a drain problem in my 180 and in fact said there was no problem! Funny I saw plenty of water drain out in the bathroom floor and drip from under the camper. Hmmm? I finally said to heck with them and found an local independent shop who fixed the problem and billed Forest River. They, Forest River, allowed so much time to repair this problem just like car dealers shops do and paid them. Then I only had to make up the difference since the repair took a little bit longer but it was only a small sum.

Additionally you can always call Forest River and speak to the person who handles the R-Pod warranty issues to see if you can get a warranty honored from a dealer who is playing hardball with you. Or they may even arrange repair at another dealer shop but don't hesitate to contact them.

So there are ways of getting around these shyster dealers and their warranty policies. Some may not agree with me but there are ways I assure you as I found out first hand.
