   The Camco filter I specified does state on the label that it does filter out bacteria. However, it also states to not use on water that is not microbiologically safe. At home, we are on city water that is treated with chlorine or chloramine. I don't use water from sources I don't know or trust. I drain the water from the filter when I remove it and cap both input and output openings to keep dirt and anything else out. The information I have read indicates the KDF keeps bacteria from growing in the carbon filtering media. Camco also says it has a 100 micron filter. How effective is the KDF part?

I have sanitized at the beginning of each season. I have been drinking water from the tank with no issues. I don't drink from the hot water side though.

	Also keep in mind that carbon filters take out the remnants of the chorine or ammonia sanitizing agents in municipal water so you're effectively putting in water in your tank with no disinfectant at all. If you read the wording on the filters it doesn't say it removes all the bacteria, it says it "greatly reduces" sediment, bacteria, etc. It all depends on what bugs are in the water and whether they can get by the filter. Some bad bugs are smaller than 100 microns. I used a filter recently to fill our tank because of the high level of arsenic in the water, but now I'm stuck with a filter that I can't adequately dry out. I left it out in the NV sun to bake. But it'll never be used for water to drink. If you've got a really good immune system, and don't mind a little diarrhea from time to time, tank water is fine. It's all a matter of risk vs. benefit. When we're in México, I frequent the street vendor because the food is absolutely delicious. [I look for a lot of turn over in product.] Generally, I'm fine since my gut is already probably loaded with the bugs from the food and I'm used to it. But when it doesn't work out, there's always diphenoxylate hydrochloride and atropine sulfate aka Lomotil®.

	There is nothing wrong with Chlorine Bleach. It will loose effectiveness somewhat over time. It is the additives that are put in the bleach that become the problem. Scents and fragrances, Color enhancer and protectors etc. If you are using unmolested Chlorine Bleach in the correct ratio, that is fine. The reason we had to dump the tanker where bleach was used was because of the additives. So, make sure you are using a high quality straight chlorine bleach, if that is the route you choose to go. Like I have said all along... Everyone sees it different. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything. I am only sharing my opinion. And as we know, everyone has at least one opinion on every topic. So please, if it makes sense to you, then good. If it does not make sense to you, then good. Joe

	And one more thing, of course Remember.. chlorine, bleach or HTH, is poison. You are putting poison in your drinking water. And that effects each individual differently. Be careful what you put in your drinking water. This is not a good place to take guesses or to risk a mistake. This, if for no other reason, is why my recommendation will always be, drink bottled water.....it is safer.....

	I like the idea of the tablets. I've ruined more than one pair of pants by splashing bleach. Also, I think I'd rather (after showering) smell like "swimming pool" than "Clorox". I planned to go to Walmart in the morning anyway so, I'll see what they have. As mentioned, I take "bottled water" for consumption. It's cheap and I keep it on hand anyway (for consumption), as I don't drink my well water at home. It is also a backup water supply for emergencies, in case of a power outage. Neither of my 2 generators will deliver 240 volts to power the well pump, at home. While we have strayed from the OPs question, the comments are good. Many conversations drift away like that. However, to address the OPs question, I do not drain my water heater - other than when winterizing. As mentioned, it is the wind resistance that hurts most regarding fuel mileage. I can't imagine 50lbs. making much of a difference. Also, I'm wondering to myself why I am taking the advice of someone who is telling me to put poison in my water????

	flat6, Sorry Flat6 is was in reference to a previous post and I thank you for your detailed response. Absolutely agree with cleaning water tank I also am very aware of water tank maintenance, thanks for taking time to respond, no offense meant.
