Tire and hub check

As winter raged on the past few months, I quelled my camping desires by surfing amazon and getting new stuff for this years adventures. I bought many things, but I wanted to mention a few here. 2 of the  things I bought were a digital tire pressure gauge and a laser thermometer, so I could closely, and accurately monitor by tire pressure, and the temperature of tires and hubs. I was really surprised to see that after driving for 2 hours, I got out of the truck, got out the laser thermometer and checked the hub temperature, and it was 74 degrees. It was probably in the seventies that day so I dont know if when its hotter it'll be the same, but I feel better knowing. Those blowout post you see this time of year get ya thinking. I hope that this is a good way of knowing if my bearings are in need of service BEFORE they need it. Anybody else do this?

BTW - I also use the EEZ Go TPMS, so I can monitor tire pressure on RV from in TV.

However, the laser is "cool tech". I read an article a while back about them and if I can remember it, I'll post a link. It regarded the "reflectivity" of the object/material being measured by the laser. Two pieces of the same metal were heated to the same temperature - one was dull and dark and the other bright and glossy. The laser measured a much lower temperature on the glossy object - due to it's higher reflectivity. That said, I don't think it terribly critical, within reason. I think what would be a concern is if you were to notice a big increase in temperature vs. what you have noticed in the past.

+1  Fiscally conservative.

A lot of the tools I have are used for many purposes other than the Pod. My laser for instance I use in the shop when doing maintenance on my vehicles and yard equipment. I think being fiscally conservative is good, thus many projects for one tool.
