Pricing:
So the prices I see listed here always seem lower than locally.
Like I see people saying 15k is normal for new? Most locally list around 22k? Even assuming 15% off I'm thinking 18k new?
I've found a 2017 ex-rental (eek?) for 14k which looks like one of the better deals?

Floorplans:
So right now we have a small family of 4. i.e one <1 year, 1 3 year old. Pretty outdoorsy people, primary reason for the trailer(vs tent) is bathroom and extending the season.
My wife prefers a dry bath, but I could probably sway her. It seems like the 178,179, 180 are teh best candidates.
178: seems good, but wet bath
179: larger slider? seems riskier. Also lowish roof over kitchen?
180: lots of wasted space in bathroom, least amount of relaxing space, but maybe that's ok. Worried about those narrow cushions sliding around on dinette/cot-bed.

Any feedback on the different 20' models?

There's some very crafty mods that are enticing, but ultimately my goal is to use this thing a lot over 2 years and not spend TOO much time tweaking/investing time/money. What are some MUST do mods? (I'm thinking 2 propane tanks, and 2 6v batteries to extend comfort.

Winter camping:
Has anyone used their r-pod for a couple nights at 20 degrees? We like to ski/xc/snowshoe. Are there some easy ways to improve the trailers weather tightness? Only a few nights so probably "dry"?

The 179 is one of the "big butt" models that has a more abrupt curve from the top of the Pod to the rear. It poses no issues with head clearance.

We've had no issues with the slider in our 179 through 18 months.

We considered both the 179 and 180 and picked the 179 because it does have more living area and my wife loves to bake. Our three cats like the living area too.

We are looking to buy a new 2018. Around here the out the door price is around $20,500. Hood River model, power jack, awning, tv, 13.5 air con. You want the best out the door price. The hood river model cost more for us west coast people. I believe that when people say they are paying $15,000 this is without taxes and fees. I am also seeing a prep fee or camper fee added in the numbers. Some dealers just hid this in the asking price, some show it as a fee. This isthe price for a full propane tank, battery, sewer hose ect. They also make sure the trailer is in camp ready for you and show you how to use everything. I feel you should not be charged for this, that is why many dealers just hid this cost in your base price. But doing that raises your base price when you see it. This fee looks to be around $200 to $2000.
As far as what model to get. I thought I had to have the 180 due to the dry bath. Once I played in the shower I did not feel that it was much bigger than the 179 shower area. I also feel that the larger kitchen and couch was a larger area. The couch makes a larger bed area.
I hope this helps a bit. I am still working the dealer down more on price. Remember you should add a sway bar or weight distribution bar to your car. These can cost a bit. This might be something to add into the deal.
Keep usposted on what you buy. I will also check back in the next few weeks and let you know how my deal went.
Good luck

For cold weather camping, go to your local Lowe's or Home Depot. Pick up some of the insulation that looks like foil-coated bubble wrap. Cut pieces of this to fit the shape of the window and sit just inside the inside frame. Place these in the windows and lower the shades to help keep them in place (or use hook and loop tape). On our 179, we have them in the bed area windows (cuts cold drafts and darkens the bed area better) and in the dining area window. This is easily removed for when you want to open a window but does help insulate the windows when you need to keep heat inside better.

In addition to this, I did add some rigid foam board insulation underneath the bed platform in our 179. I think it helps there also. I could have used more of the reflective insulation and may still do so as another layer. I don't know how much it helps, but I got it before getting the memory foam mattress which is much thicker than the original and, I would think, insulates better against the cold from below.

The 'Pods are pretty tight already, so you should not need to do much. They have to be in order to not get water inside as they are going down the road. One area of concern is if you have a slide-out, check the trim on the inside under the base. On ours, it was loose, allowing a cold draft when the slide was extended. Getting the rubber tighter to the floor of the slide-out helped. When it is in, there is no problem as the rubber seal around the outside flange will seal the area. As for water, carrying water in a container for use is your best bet. We were staying in our RP179 last December in low single-digit temperatures. I had purchased an 8 gallon Reliance Hydroller at Walmart. It is quite heavy if it is filled full, but it does have wheels and a folding handle which make it easier to maneuver as needed.

If you want the dry bath but need space for four I would not go with the 180.  To me it is a couples camper at best.  There is less storage space and the dinette makes for a very narrow bed.  I would look into the new 189/190 models.  Still has a dry bath but more space in rear for two kids to sleep and they would be at the other end of the trailer.
As far as price goes, there is a wide variability among dealers since they are usually far apart.  There are some "wholesalers" who do sell for $15,000 and that is out the door.  Only extra is sales tax.  That includes battery and propane fill.  There are others who sell at list price. We saved $5000 by buying from a dealer 100 miles away rather than a dealer 30 miles away.  But remember many dealers will NOT service an RPOD bought somewhere else.  We were lucky to find an RV rental place that is an authorized FR repair shop that happily accepted our RPOD warranty work who was also 30 miles away saving us 140 miles roundtrip drive

+1 on Richand Cindy suggestions. When I shopped for our 180 I looked with in a 200 miles distance around us for the best deal. I was lucky that my closest dealer offered the best competitive package.

There are no 189s/190s in my state/region. I'm getting the impression they're not making them in their west coast plant yet.

Also, I'm searching a 2 state area. It makes no difference. It seems like the HRE/west coast models just go for more. (probably unjustified).

Like for the 20' slide-out type models 1-2 years old seems about 15-16 list. I was leaning toward used because new is closer to $20k "sale" price.

I think I'll take teh family to look at some this weekend. Short days make browsing a chore.

You may want to call FR and see when they will be making the 189/190 in the west coast.  It may be the better floor plan for your needs. Also there are several wholesalers that will actually ship the RPOD to you.  Even if they charge $1500 you could still save thousands on a new model and maybe get the 189/190 that way.  Some however prefer getting a slightly used RPOD and let the owner get all the warranty work done.  Personally I hate to pay for used when I could get new for the same price
