Topic: R Dome on 2017 &2018 Posted: 12 May 2017 at 7:26pm |
We have immensely enjoyed our rdome although there have been a few funny experiences with it. Two years ago we were at a state park in the UP of Michigan on the west coast of Lake Michigan. Was abruptly awakened by a banging on the side of the pod, we were in the midst of a huge thunderstorm with a lot of wind to boot. I couldn't even open our door as the dome had completely come undone, stakes pulled out of the ground and it was like a huge parachut pushing in on the door side of the pod. After much effort I was able to get out and at least take off the 3 poles that were slamming against the wall. I was amazed that we incurred no damage either to the rdome or the side of the camper.

The dealer either orders with the Thule awning or not. If not, the Rpod comes equipped to attach the Rdome. The Rdome attaches to a C Channel mounted on outside of camper, that is not outfitted for the Thule Awning. The Rdome offers so much more, albeit more cumbersome to set up and a pain if just for a night somewhere. When I bought my 179, I price shopped on internet, found best price in PA and negotiated with my dealer in MA and he matched and threw in RDome. Dealer had Rdome dropped shipped to me following sale. The RDome literally doubles your space as provides complete outdoors room.

"Standard" is neither.. the 2 "options" are dome OR awning.

I ordered a PR179 last month. I take delivery in late June of a 2018 with the R Dome, I hope I made the right decision, I think the rdome is more useful, especially in the summer months with the bugs. We have owned other RV's awnings are nice but as the sun goes down they offer less protection. I also prefer the idea of being able to sleep in the screen room during he cooler months.

I was just on the FR website and it appears you have the option of either: the awning or the r-dome but not both OR you can order with neither, the choice is yours. I know when we ordered our 177 back in Jannuary 2011 we special ordered ours w/o the following, no A/C, no entertainment system, no microwave/convection oven. We boondock more than go to places where electricity is available so didn't see the need for the above. Six plus years later, no regrets on our decision. So let your dealer know you want the r-dome so you will get the keder track on the side of your new 178. Welcome to the forum!

I am almost an RV newbie. I hope to purchase an R Pod 178 in the next 2 weeks. I found answers for most of my questions, by reading what everyone has posted. I've emailed a couple dealers, but have not received a response. Does anyone know if the blue 2017 or 2018 model allows for the r dome? I don't want the awning that comes standard. I'd like to negotiate it in my price if I can.
