Hi,

We are soon-to-be new R-Pod 180 owners, we pick our Pod up on the 18th.  I'm really excited, and am happy to be here, thanks to the R-Pod Owners group on Facebook. Someone over there mentioned the forum, so I came here too.

I'm a little nervous now, after reading some of the stories about issues the Pods, Forest River and their dealers...but there are so many other POSITIVE experiences I'm reading about that I'm still very much looking forward to the adventures, journeys and odessy's we'll have in R-Podessy!

Now, I'm off to read more...

We have camped in our pod for six years with no trouble, just routine maintenance (fitting replaced, bearings packed yearly, this year a new set of tires, joints sealed).  Everything works and we are happy.  Don't worry.  Enjoy.

Welcome to the group!! Congrats on your 180!!
I agree with Keith-N-Dar, we have had rpods for 8 years now, only had a couple minor blimps and those were quickly taken care of on warranty.
Enjoy your pod!!

Its almost been one month since we picked up our 180. Knock on wood we have not had any issues.  Make sure when you pick up your POD there is no "Its been winterized sticker" on the door.  If there is make sure the dealer drains out the pink antifreeze fluid, rinses the lines and leaves the water cut off valves in the operating position.  Also as soon as you can go over all of the visible seams with clear Proflex sealant to insure there will be no leaks.  Our dealer told us this.  this way it seals the Forest River caulking which is grey and blue and hard to find those colors.  Then go under the sinks and make sure all the connections are tight.  If you do this you should be all set for traveling and not worrying about leaks. Enjoy. The 180 is great for those that want freedom from campground facilities.  Although the first campground we visited had immaculate facilities, the second one was far away and filthy.  We knew then we made the right choice!

Glad to have you two aboard.  Like Keith-N-Dar we have had no issues with our 6 year old 177.  It has been a great unit.  We have put over 25,000 miles on it and finally had to put new tires on a year ago.  We do a fair amount of boondocking so our batteries get used a fair amount.  So . . . . . . where are you from and where are you going for your 'shakedown' adventure?

Thank you! We do not usually camp in "civilized" campgrounds, so it's great to hear that we've made the right choice for boondocking!

LOL I'm learning how this forum thing works, so may end up editing my post like a million times!

We live near Cody, Wyoming so have a LOT of options for places to go. We're 50 miles outside the east entrance to Yellowstone, but have never camped there. Too many people. LOL  We usually go across the Basin eastward and into the Big Horns, very few campgrounds around with hookups.

Our story, and I'll try to give you the reader's digest condensed version, began with camping in wall tents. The ground got hard and cold, so cots were added. The body got tired and old and cots were not comfortable enough, so I suggested an air mattress. We wound up with an A-Liner A'frame pop up which I loved, but it didn't suit our needs after we added ATV's to the mix. We found ourselves driving two vehicles to get the ATV's to the camping area. So, we traded the A-Liner off for a FR Rockwood A-frame with the expanded metal front deck for one of the ATV's, the other rode on the pickup bed. Well, THEN we went and traded off one of the ATV's on a side by side (Yamaha Wolverine), the other ATV stays home and is the work horse around the place for various projects. SO, our needs changed yet again!! The Rockwood just isn't big enough, we can't both change clothes in there at the same time. LOL We no longer need the toy hauler deck, so...this is how we came to choose the R-Pod 180. I really WANTED the 179 because I adore the floorplan, but Shane wanted a real shower...not that we've EVER showered while out camping Dead. That's what lakes and creeks are for Embarrassed.  BUT, neither of us is getting any younger, so...

David, thank you!! I did read the Abandoned by FR post, that's the one that REALLY made me nervous. I'll go find your post and read it again. I do have some ideas for what the dealer, if they're as good as they claim to be, will show us, do, and all that before we leave the lot with the camper. Plus I'm a bit of a hot-head, and I'll INSIST (much to Shane's chagrin) on having them show us EVERYTHING works, including the water.

I don't know where we'll go for our maiden odyssey (hence the name R-Podyssey) but I'm thinking to try a civilized campground so we can experiment with the hookups. We may just go down to Thermopolis, WY to Fountain of Youth Campground. But then again, we are more likely to load up the generator and Side by and boondock it. That's how we'll usually use it.

Proflex clear sealant..goes on my list NOW! Thank you!!!

Love the Big Horns! Have camped at 10 Sleep a couple of times. (tent)

We may take the New R Pod out there next year. This year is Colorado to meet up with my son's family.

Enjoy your Pod.
