Has anyone used a hitch extender while towing their R-pod?
I have a 2016 179 and added a power jack recently. Now when I lower my tailgate, it hits the power jack.  I need about 2 more inches of room so my tailgate will lie flat while the trailer is hitched up.

You don't want a hitch extender, you want a longer shank. Hitch extenders reduce your capacity of hitch and tongue weight.

Thanks. I was worried about that.
I have a weight distribution hitch, so was trying to avoid having to purchase a new receiver shank for the ball hitch portion.

I've found if you raise the jack while hitched the gate can open.

Yeah.. having a "shank collection" seems to be part of the deal.. LOL. We have about 5 of them now, different drop/rise and length combinations based on various tv's and TT's..

i found that too. Seems like you.d want to lower the jack but its just the opposite.

Doesn't extending the shank increase tongue weight?  If you made it long enough, one could stand on it and lift the front wheels off the ground.

A longer shank can have the same effect: reducing the allowable tongue weight. However, due to the way they must be made, most hitch extenders will be longer than a shank and weaker too. Longer shanks that may only add 2 inches may be quite sufficient to provide desired clearance.
