I have not done any boondocking yet but, plan to this year. I am wondering how you run the heater in the Pod at night when you shut the generator off for quiet hours. Will the batteries run it through the night?

The onboard furnace uses propane for the heat and 12V for the fan. The fan draws 3.4A while it's running. A fully charged Gp24 battery will easily run it for a night if it's not well below freezing. A pair of 6V golfers will go for several days.

We do a lot of camping in the shoulder months of April-May and September-October so our furnace gets used a lot. Probably the best test is when we are in Glacier or RMNP where there is no electricity and we use our batteries. Night temps are normally in the mid to upper 40's at night, sometimes a bit cooler. We expect to get 3 - 3.5 days from each battery. Our batteries are 12 v group size 24 deep cycle and are beggining year 7. When they expire we will probably go with 2 6volt golf cart batteries.

We use flannel lined sleeping bags, and turn the furnace off until around 6 in the morning then switch it on and start the coffee percolator.

I usually turn the thermostat down to about 60 degrees when we go to bed and turn it up in the morning when I get up since I get up before my wife. On our last trip, I picked up a Mr. Buddy Portable. Since I don't have the hose to adapt it to a tank yet, I only use it to take the chill off quickly as those 1-lb tanks can get expensive.

The heater is a propane hog, while the fridge will sip at the propane tank. We slide the main window open a bit and open the bathroom vent so there's air circulating with the heater on, but be prepared for moisture in the morning.
