Is it normal for the roof A/C fan to run when turning on the heater?  I am still testing everything on our new 180 and when I selected heat on the thermostat and set the temp to where it would kick in the heater fired up OK but the roof unit also started running.  I am plugged in to ground power, I'm sure it won't run if just on battery.  Also the roof A/C unit seems very loud, is there any fan speed adjustment or does the unit quiet down when the compressor kicks off.  At least my wife won’t hear my snoring if the A/C is running.

I have also seen the same mode when turning on the heater.  I think it is an additional mode.  The regular heating mode is I think 3 button presses from off.  When in the normal heating mode, 1 additional press is off.

One of my problems is that I am usually entering the pod from the bright outside lighting and my eyes have a difficult time with the thermostat.  Turning on the heat has been the 1st priority.

I had a similar issue.  I had to set the fan to auto (It goes Hi, Lo, Auto).  This then works on heat or A/C.  Then try the the heater again.

I wish I remembered what the dealer said to me.  This affects the new RPODs only with the new thermostat.  You need to keep the setting at auto.  And when changing from heat to ac or vice versa you need to keep holding down your finger to get it to change modes.  Otherwise the ac fan and heater run at same time.  This happened to me and then I remembered something about holding it down and sure enough the ac stopped when I put on the heater.  Its a little confusing and I am sure I am not explaining it correctly but you are not alone this is a new thing that happens

Thanks everyone, set the fan to auto and held the button on heat for a few seconds and all worked great. It gets warm in there quick. It did set off the smoke detector burning off the newness but no visible smoke.

I learned the same lesson this past week and did find older forum chains that talk about the heater.  Evidently the heater only works with the gas turned on and you must have the setting on auto instead of high or low fan to avoid the AC fan turning on.  Another suggestion what that if you get a small room space heater it works just as well and you don't have to worry as much about the heater area getting too hot.  On the 178 it is underneath the bed.    Good luck and happy camping!

First post, just did a shakedown cruise in our new 178, this was our problem all night, and it got colder than we're used to. OK will try all this, thanks fellow Froggies.
