Hi all-2nd year owner of 182G.  When towing my camper once I get to a certain speed, say 40 mph and up, I hear a noise, like metal flapping in the wind.  As far as I can tell it is not chains on the tow area. I think it is the antenna.  I'm wondering if anyone has had the same issue and if so can I get up there and tighten it up.  It is the antenna that comes standard on the camper.

If you unbolt the antenna head from the mast, you will likely find that the rubber washer that should be sitting between the top of the mast and the antenna head is missing. I don't think the installer at the factory puts them in. If you can find some rubber gasket material, you could make a ring to fit in the socket. Alternately, you could use a little (and I mean little) silicone around the top to form a washer and tighten the antenna head. Too much could make it nearly impossible to remove though. That may help with the antenna noise.

We were getting rattling noises when the wind was blowing also. I found out about the rubber washer when I had to replace the head on ours after the original got caught in some trees when we went to visit a friend.

I usually just respond by, "Yes dear, I'll have a look at the next fillup."  The "noise" usually goes away...Tongue

Just kidding. StephenH is probably right, although in many miles I have never had a problem with antenna flapping. Makes sense though. That bat wing thing sure seems flimsy even though we've never had an issue with it. Of course, Willie Nelson blasting On The Road Again on the stereo helps.

We experience noise from the piece of round metal that is at the top of the propane tank cover, it flutters and rattles...not always, just enough to mess with you.

I will check my antenna tomorrow, I have never seen one that didn't wobble, it's a function of the single locking bolt thru the center of the mast. Interesting. My propane tank cover had a plywood circle installed to make it table top. I removed that and replaced it with a 5 gal bucket lid, works fine, lasts a long time. I did inspect my antenna to insure all the screws are in it after a post from SH, mine are secure.

Also make sure to check your bathroom fan vent cover. Keep it closed all the way when driving, it will flutter madly and it might break.
