Topic: Proud New R-Podders! Posted: 16 Apr 2017 at 7:43am |
It all started last April with a camping trip to Lake Powhatan, just outside of Asheville, NC. After getting bombarded with rain while setting up our tent, we later went for a walk around the campsite for the sole purpose of checking out other people's campers. We fell in love with a Palo-Mini, did some research, and found out the small one didn't have a bathroom. So the search began. Long story short, I discovered the R-Pod, and the search promptly ended. We knew we wanted an R-Pod, queen bed, slide out.
Fast forward one year and lots of drooling over R-Pods later, I joined this forum to start doing research on them, ask questions, see what I was getting myself in to. And wouldn't you know it, a fellow member just posted a 177 for sale only 2 hours away with lots of extra goodies.
Just dragged our new-to-us R-Pod home yesterday. Thanks Rich! We're super excited to go camping next weekend.
*I tried linking an image with the image insert feature with no luck. Wah-waaahhhhhhhhhhh.

Woo, hoo, congratulations on your 177. We have enjoyed ours for 6 years and are excited to bring it out of hibernation for year #7. There were less floorplans available when we purchased our 177 back in January 2011 but we would still go with this one today' it works for us. What year is your 177 and where are you from?

Congratulations on the 177, that was our choice to. We had no intentions of purchasing a travel trailer until we were at a Blue Grass festival at Lake Havasu, AZ. Reta saw one and asked "what's that" to which I responded "I don't know", to which she said, "it's soooo cute". You all can figure out the "rest of the story". We use it to go to the festivals and go camping up in Arizona's backwoods "high country" where Zane Gray use to hang out and where the people, places and events became the genesis of his western novels.
No doubt you're going to love your new "home away from home".

I have been camping for 40 yrs. I have gone from a tent, to a pop-up, to a 26' Cameo, to a 31' Sunnybrook Titan..... long story short, my husband decided that I was too old for him so he left 5 years ago. I had to sell the Sunnybrook because I didn't have anything to tow it with. I just sold my 17'6" Bass Tracker boat because I wanted to get back to camping. I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. I love it and didn't want to get rid of it. After looking for something I could pull I fell in love with the R-Pod 179. I go to Texas next week to pick it up. I can't wait. I hope my Jeep doesn't have problems with towing it. I've never towed anything this "big". My husband always did the driving. Any tips from other Jeep owners that tow would be greatly appreciated. Also do I need to get the weight distribution hitch? Thanks guys....

I know of a Jeep owner who tows a similar trailer who uses a WDH, a good idea since it has a shorter wheelbase, gives better stablity, added safety and peace of mind while driving.

I would certainly recommend a WDH (properly set-up as well) and a sway bar. They made towing down I-81 with semis and cross-winds easy.

Welcome back to camping! And I echo the advice to get the weight distribution hitch, including having it professionally installed (NOT that you couldn't figure it out, but because they do them all the time and are really good at it). Enjoy your 179 and Camp On! (and Sew On too it appears? I sew in our 179 with a couple of my smaller machines :-)
