Hello Fellow Podders!

i have been living in my Rpod 180 for a year now, and my landlord and i are battling about whether i should be keeping my black tank valve open or shut.
The guys at Camping World where i bought it told me to keep it shut except for when it's time to empty it (about once a week).
My landlord insists that that is bogus "car salesmen" advice.

Anybody out there have any knowledge about this?
i would sure appreciate it:)
Thanks
Mystic Lily

Keep it closed unit it is 3/4 full. Drains much better and you will avoid collection of waste that will cause you issues in future. I will fill my tank to get to 3/4 before draining just to dilute stuff.

You should also be using enzyme packs to break down the waste before dumping. Those packs take some time and volume to do their job.

I don't think that particular treatment uses enzymes, which means it's probably OK to add on an empty tank. You should have at least a little bit of waste in the tank before adding the enzymatic treatments. I see the two types as being analogous to liquid and powdered dishwasher detergent: I've always found that the powder does a better job. It's just the difference between chemical and biologic break-down.

Mystic,

I think what they are saying is, put your treatment in at the start of the process, it does no good to not allow the treatment to work. Empty your tanks add your treatment and start using the black tank, let the treatment work until next empty cycle. Then start over. The tank has no pressure other than the volume in tank, unlike your home toilet that sends gallons to push the waste to the sewer. So you need volume to move it into the hose and down the sewer, it all that makes sense.
