Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our 13-year-old cat this morning. He's been in poor health and continued to go downhill even with medication, so it was time to put him to rest. He was the first cat we ever took camping. While he didn't really enjoy the trips getting there, he found himself some comfy spots in the Pod to snooze in and windows from which to watch the critters outside.

Fortunately, we have twin 5-month-old kittens that did great in their first and only outing and we look forward to taking them on more trips. They love chasing each other around our 179, including on the shelf we installed over the bed.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but happy to hear you got a couple of young camping fur balls.

So sorry for your loss. We travel full-time with 3 cats and they also like the shelf over our bed!

I really like the mod you made for Henry.  I will have to look carefully at our 179 and see if something like that is possible.  What did you trim the opening with?

Hi layne,

The grommet edging I used came from a family member in the business. It is equivalent to this:

https://www.amazon.com/Edge-Trim-Black-Small-Length/dp/B00KG9BAY0

Hope that helps.

We took our cat on a 10 day trip recently. He is a half-wild indoor/outdoor cat who will not allow anyone but me to touch him. Leaving him alone really upsets him so now we take him. I give him tranquilizers that I get from our vet - they just mellow him a little. He endures two walks a day on a harness and spends the rest of the time fairly content. He uses a cat box which I scoop frequently.  Oh, and after listening to him yell for hours, we decided he travels in the trailer, in his crate. Not ideal but better than the alternative.

Your story sounds familiar.  We have been podding several times with our cat and he has finally adjusted to life in the Pod but not as thrilled with a moving car.  If I am not holding him he meows. He is a big talker.   Also, he has tried to escape from our truck though he never tries to escape from the Pod.  We have had some scary moments where he squeezed out of a slightly opened window and took off running.  Now we leash him to the arm rest when we have stopped.

The other night we were in Canyonlands National Park, Utah and it was at night and he was next to the window and let out a few meows.  Something outside our Pod growled a response.  Shocked  He quieted down.
