When I select "new messages," I get the list with the number of new posts in parenthesis. When I click on those links, most of the time, I am taken to the new posts. However, with messages that have multiple pages, I am sometimes taken to pages earlier than where the new posts are. What is different about the message threads where this happens and the message threads where the expected action of going to the new posts happens? Is it a quirk in the forum software? Is it a cookie problem? Is there a fix for this misbehavior?

I'm seeing the same thing.

I also wish this site stored the last read post position on the server side instead of in a cookie. When I switch between my work PC and my home Mac, New Posts always include all posts since I read new posts on *that* machine only, not new posts since the last time I viewed new posts on *any* machine.

I am going to defer to the other 2 Admins, who are much smarter than me, to answer this. I am a bit confused however. "New Messages" have to do with your "Private Mail". "New Posts" would deal with new postings to forum topics.

I think you are referring to "New Posts". The Web Wiz software package does a pretty good job...for what it is and costs. Is it perfect? NO.
Is there better stuff out there? Yes/maybe. It is what it is.

It could be worse....it could be a Microsoft product....

Old Joke but Still Funny

A helicopter was flying around above Seattle when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communications equipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position and course to fly to the airport. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, drew a handwritten sign, and held it in the helicopter's window. The pilot's sign said "WHERE AM I?" in large letters. People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign and held it in a building window. Their sign read: "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER." The pilot smiled, waved, looked at her map, determined the course to steer to SEATAC airport, and landed safely. After they were on the ground, the co-pilot asked the pilot how the "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER" sign helped determine their position. The pilot responded "I knew that had to be the Microsoft building because, like their technical support, online help and product documentation, the response they gave me was technically correct, but completely useless."

Yes, it was supposed to be "New Posts." Sorry for the confusion. The problem was between the seat and the keyboard. Embarrassed

While I am at it, there is another thing I have noticed. The names and the emoticon do not always match. For example, this one is labeled "Dead": Dead In other forums, this might be called "Sick." This one is labeled "Clap": Clap . This one is labeled "Star": Star. This one is labeled "Clown": Clown. It looks like a wizard to me. This one is labeled "Stern Smile": Stern Smile while this one is labeled "Pig": Pig. There are several others, but this should suffice to show that the names and icons are mismatched for a number of the emoticons. Some of the spaces have a name, but no emoticon in the listing: "Sick", "Party", "Beer", and "Handshake". It would be nice if an administrator looked into this also.

Emoticons - yeah, it has always been that way.  I figured an upgrade would fix it but we've had a few over the years and of course it is the same.  (hosting and the upgrades come from our benefactor, not me).

Sorry I can't help on the "new posts" feature, I don't use it.
