I am removing my defunct Emerson radio/CD etc player and there is a snarl of wiring behind it. If the next owner wants to put a similar unit back in, is there something that I should be doing for them?

I am thinking of cutting each wire from the Emerson just before the wire connectors and also keeping the wiring description of the Emerson unit on file.

The storage space freed up is AWESOME!

I am not familiar with the Emerson unit since we have a Jensen unit. Ours has a plug with all the wires, so we could just unplug the connector. Check to see if there is a similar connector that can be unplugged instead of cutting the wires. Then you could just wrap the wires up and perhaps make a panel to hide them behind. I think that would be preferable to cutting the wires.

I think I would just bundle them up with zip ties or something.. cutting the wiring harness for no reason doesn't seem great for "the next guy..."
