I see lots of Rpod owners have added a 12volt outlet in their Rpods. Please advise what model works best and how to install into a 2016 178. I think this would work well with a small inverter that plugs into 12volt socket to run the TV off grid and ipad/iphone chargers.

Lots of posts on installing 12V sockets on this forum. Run a search on 12V sockets. Here are some ideas on products:

Installing the 12V socket and using the plugin USB adapter is the best way to charge small items like cell phones, pads, flashlights, etc. Wire it directly to an unused fuse position on the power distribution panel with #12 AWG wire. TVs can handled with small 100W plugin inverter or direct 12V TVs.

I installed a 12 volt socket next to the power panel last night on my 2016 178. I can tell you when you access the panel there is only a positive post for the additional fused DC out. As for the negative, I connected to the AC ground post and everything worked well. I also ordered a 12 meter socket plug in and a 12 volt 130W Inverter/USB chargeer socket plug in from Amazon to plug into this new outlet as needed.

See my post in response to your other post. If you connected to to the AC neutral bus, the one with white wires on it, that is very dangerous.

Yes, I connected to bare wire AC ground not the White common connection. Just think the should have a seperate terminal area for DC grounds. Even if they end up being the same in the end.

As I said in another post, the 12V negative buss bar is not located in the distribution panel on my 2016 179, it is attached to the floor behind the panel and behind a messy bundle of wires.

This is what I installed in our r179:

I mounted it next to the slide switch and took a power feed of the slide switch. Not the best place for an accurate voltage reading but good enough for me.

There is a separate buss bar for the 12v. It's not mounted in the power distribution box. Here is a picture from our 177.. see that buss bar in the compartment? That's where your 12v ground goes. Tying 12v into the 120v ground means, when unplugged from shore power, your ground has no where to go..
