Does anybody have a good mod for permanent lighting for the steps?

You might be able to mount an LED strip on the pod frame just above the step. The question is whether you can tie into the existing exterior light circuit, or if you will have to mount a separate switch. The automotive grade LED strips are fairly common, here is one example...

Somebody else will have to chime in to see what his wiring options are on his specific pod.  If I was going to do it, I would want it tied into the porch light circuit if at all possible.  The steps only need to be "illuminated", so I am guessing a much lower wattage LED will do - the one I posted would probably be overkill.

LOL.. we just lit the whole underbody.. there is a 24" LED tube over the steps..

Yes, 7 colors, plus two styles of fade, and like 21 effects.. chase, flash, respond to sound/music, etc..
