In late June/early July we'll be taking our R-Pod 178 across the loneliest highway in America, Hwy 50 through Nevada. Any suggestions on where to camp or where to stay away from? We would prefer to have electric hook-up, but could dry camp if below 90F.

Also, what's the road like? Will be pulling with a 6-cylinder Toyota 4Runner.

Try this:   www.sunset.com/travel/southwest/highway-50-travel-guide.

I can't speak for the entire route, but I have tent camped at Great Basin National Park and it is spectacular.

A truly "out in the middle of no where" experience.    Camp at the Wheeler Peak campground  Elevation is
10,000 feet and the mountain to desert views are awsome.  Make sure to tour Lehman Cave while you are there

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
We do plan on staying 3+ nights at Great Basin NP.
Thanks for the Sunset link, too.

Going to Nevada for 25 days in June. Starting in Mountain City, to Austin to Caliente. Loneliest Hwy. and the ET Hwy. Hickison Petroglyph CG, Echo Canyon, Cave Lake SP, Ward Charcoal Ovens. Then to Pioche to Ely to Wells, to Salmon Falls. Stop at Area 51 in Rachel on the ET hwy. Most of the campgrounds are first come basis. Some with water, some not. Some have showers and dump station. Just go and have fun.

The road is fine have been across it several times with a big 5th wheel and a teardrop. The KOA in Ely is alright but nothing special. The RV parks in Austin leave much to be desired.

Can't speak about the state park sites but they have no hook ups.

If you are an Elk, the Elks lodge in Gardener is really nice.

Don't pass a gas station without stopping.  The road up to austin and back down is steep and winding
