If you have a good dealer, they might swap it out for one they have (from another pod or camper). I doubt that it is covered under warranty.

Just Got our R-Pod 178 last week. Setting it up for first adventure coming up in 3 weeks. When I attempted to put on sheets on mattress the mattress covering ripped about 2 feet down the seem. I wonder if I can get a credit on warrantee and get a quality mattress?

Taking the old one out is not that difficult. Fold in half lengthways and carry out, makes a pretty cool bonfire starter.

I would really like to get a Select Comfort mattress for our R-Pod. That is what we use at home. We are always glad to get back to our Select Comfort. The stock mattress with topper isn't bad, but it isn't what we would like. The problem is the price on the Select Comfort mattresses.

They probably get them from the mattress manufacturer rolled up, and compressed in plastic - rip open the plastic and it rolls out in seconds. That is the one thing I have read a lot of reviews saying, to make sure the replacement mattress comes compressed - so you can open it after you place it in the bed compartment.

The stock mattress isn't all that great. We added a foam topper to it which makes it more bearable. But someday it will get replaced. I just have to figure out a way to get the old one out (maybe in chunks). They must put the mattress in the 171 at the factory before they put the walls up.

I get what you are saying. The RP-171 is an incredible value. I do engineering cost analysis as part of my job, and my hat's off to FR for holding those price points while being able to proudly sport the "Made in USA" sticker. I would rather they save the cost of the mattress, since that is a considered "consumable" item anyhow (like tires or brakes). That is a good point about doing one night at home in the driveway, Had not put much thought into it, but now I am thinking that is a "must do" so that I can check the mattress - and still have time to get one on Amazon Prime if need be.

My theory is, mattress comfort is HIGHLY subjective. Since most will replace it anyways, FR puts in as cheap a one as they can, because the R-Pod IS a price point build. (I certainly don't want to pay extra $$$ for a mattress I may very well change out) We did one night in the driveway, on our factory mattress, the very next day we had one on order from CW. Very happy with the replacement.
Now, I will tell you the factory mattress that CampLite is using in their 21RBS now, is perfect. LOL. |
