With my many years of backpacking and filtering I think a blend of the ideas expressed are best:
1. Sanitize system regularly
2. Use a pre filter
3. Drink bottled water
4. Cook with tank water
5. Dog get any water available
6. Drink lots of beer

I suppose this might stir up a black hornets nest but I try to steer clear of bottled water not only because of its health unbenefits but also because of the pollution caused by all those non returnable plastic bottles full of BPA's and phthalates which in and of itself is unhealthy. I sanitize my tank and whole system at least once a year. As stated, there's nothing much to it. I don't drink a lot of water but I wouldn't hesitate to drink from the pod. It's probably cleaner than any other water I drink, except maybe for bottled water, but how does anyone really know about that?

To each his own, but this isn't one of my worries.

I don't want to get political but your President stated that the US is a leader in going green and you don't recycle water bottles, tat tat tat. I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada I'm Proud to say that we in this city recycle 82% of all our garbage.

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

Great point marwayne. As a steward of this planet that God Almighty created we ought to and can do better. We try to be "green" and recycle as much as possible in our area. For us me make the healthy choice to not eat processed foods, eat natural as much as possible, recycle. Last year we did generate 6 bags of garbage for the whole year, not too bad when I look at the people across the street, who for a family of 4 generate that much in a week! We can learn a lot from Edmonton, I wish our leaders (from both sides of the political isle) would do the same.

Marwayne, your city may be a good example, but I am pretty sure that may not apply to all areas of Canada. We have recycling here as well. It is common for us to have an overflowing recycle bin and a fraction of that in our trash bin. I really would prefer if the city would reverse the sizes of the trash and recycling bins.

I won't say we are as good at it as jato, but we do make an effort, including not using bottled water much. We have stainless steel water bottles that we fill and use instead. So much though depends on individuals making the choices to reduce use of non-recyclables and to recycle those things which can be recycled instead of throwing them in the trash.

I agree with jato's statement about being stewards of God's creation. Unfortunately, there are many who do not share this view.

We don't have curb side recycling in the rural area we live. But we do have drop off centers (trailers) in town. We use them as much as possible. We "average" 1 or so full trash can a month at the curb. Our single neighbor manages to put 1 or 2 full cans a week at the end of her drive.. I for the life of me can't figure out how.
