Ok, I'm thinking about moving the spare tire on my 179 onto the tongue, so I can use a bike rack on the back.
I'm not worried about the wight at the back, the bike rack and bike weigh less than the spare and the spare mounting bracket, or whatever it's called.
My concern is about the additional weight on the tongue.  I currently have one propane take, two batteries.  I'm thinking that the spare tire must weigh less than a full propane tank, right?  Any concerns about the additional weight, or problems with the handling of the vehicle?
I know many of you have done this, any thoughts, pics...?

I did that on my 178... no problems. Go for it.
Bike rack on the back works great as well.

We went cheap and got a "Spare Joe" rack to carry my wife's one bike that mounts on the spare tire. It doesn't fit the spare tire and slips around. It also adds more load than you want on the little hitch receiver back there. After one long trip I am afraid to use it again, even for one bike. Don't consider a spare tire mount type. The solution you are looking at is the way to go.

I already have a spare tire bike carrier, left over from when I used to have a first-model-year Toyota Rav4.
I wouldn't dream of using it on the spare on the Rpod, I don't know why, just doesn't seem like a good idea.
My biggest fear with any type of bike rack way on the back of the pod, can't see it from the tow vehicle, if it came off I'd never know....!

If anyone can share some photos and details on how you mounted spare tire to the tongue I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Several folks have made this mod in several different ways. The simplest way I've seen was done by Bobditch, posted 14 July, 2015:
