towing advice

I'm sure this question has been asked before, however I'm new to towing anything larger than a pop up. We're planning on purchasing a RPod 179 in the near future. The dealer insists we purchase a swaybar. I'm sure theirs will be the most expensive. First question is do I need one? I'll be starting our journeys towing with a 1/2 ton '77 Ford F100. I'm going to assume that I'll need a sway bar so the next question is what style or brand works best with the RPods? Finally, who is a good source for such an item?

I'm sure many other will also comment.  But here is mine.  We used to tow with a 2005 Chev. Tahoe with a towing capacity of 6800lbs.  With the wheelbase length and weight of the Tahoe I only had an anti-sway bar.  Having recently upgraded to a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, I feel more comfortable with a equalizer tow bar with anti-sway.  With the shorter wheelbase and overall lower weight, this is a better combo for me.  With your long wheelbase and heavier vehicle I think initially an anti-sway bar is fine.  The can be had from Amazon for about $45.  Should you need to upgrade to a full equalizer hitch, be sure to get one that also has the anti-sway attachment included.  Safe Travels.

We bought an E2 weight distributing hitch initially, and we have experienced no issues with sway, diving, or anything else. For the money, it's cheap insurance.

We tow with a Dodge Grand Caravan without either and have done fine. We have made numerous trips from Vermont to Florida and Vermont to North Carolina without any problems.
