Topic: BAL Leveler Posted: 21 Jun 2015 at 7:46pm |
Anyone use a BAL Leveler on 14" tires? I tried using the Leveler on my 2014 176 and found the fit too snug and decided not to use the BAL for fear of damaging my tires. Previous and successful use of the BAL Leveler on my Apache pop-up for 15 years though the Apache has 10" tires.

Used on mine for 5 years now. If mine fits a bit snug I know it's time to usually check my tire pressure.

Thanks Travis. Do you keep your tire pressure at the recommended 50 psi?

Yup, checked and adjusted before every trip if need be. Even then the Bal can be tight sometimes to remove, backing up on a very thin piece of wood or even one of the really thin jack pads first allows lots of easy wiggle room to add and remove it later.
I usually won't follow my own advice on that one but always have a rubber mallet handy when breaking down camp, a few taps on the backside will push it right out.

Anyone have any experience using the BAL leveler on a Hood River Edition with 15" wheels? BAL online info says fits 13", 14", and most 15" wheels. I'm thinking this slick little leveler won't work with the HRE wheels.

Folks, I bought this leveler and love it! Not only does it let me level perfectly, it provides very secure chocking of the wheel. since the ratchet wrench that comes with the leveler is not very robust, I now carry a long 1/2" ratchet handle with a permanently mounted, six-point socket. This makes it much easier to raise/ lower.

So I bought one and had problems chocking. What's the trick?
Do you put this is place before disconnecting the vehicle and using IT as a chock?
At my last spot, there was a moderate amount of incline and I was afraid of not having a chock on each wheel so I used my old Camco blocks.

Yes, the BAL chocks and lifts. ALWAYS chock both sides before disconnecting. And ALWAYS connect before removing chocks. ALWAYS.

The HRE people put a lego block down first. That raises the HRE tire enough to slide the BAL under. We don't have an HRE, and often put a lego or two under, just so we don't have to lift the pod as much by hand, if needed.
