I im a newbie to this forum and so far i read alot of interesting topics here. I have been looking at a 2015 rpod 177 and was wondering if i will be able to tow it with my ranger. Its a 2002 ranger xlt extened cab with the towing package. It has a 4.0  v6 , 3:55 rearend, automatic trans with cooler, class 3 hitch, monroe sensatrac shocks with firestone rear air bags, brake controller, swaybar, K&N airfilter.  The specs says i can tow 5860 lbs with the truck the way its set up. Right now we are towing a 1991 Starcraft Starflyer  popup which is about 2000lbs. and have no problems with that . We live in northwest Indiana real close to chicago and so we dont really do any mountain trips . Mostly only travel in Indiana and Michigan campgrounds. Hope you can give me some info good or bad about the Rpod towing. thanks

Welcome to the forum !  I think your Ranger could handle it a little slow but in Michigan and Indiana you won't have to worry about going up steep mountains. It would be more difficult for sure in towing from what you have been use to towing the Starcraft popup. The wind load on the front of the r-pod would be the biggest difference.

Yes, I tow a 2015 RP-178 with the 1/2 ton version 2011 Supercab w/ factory tow package, V6 4.0 and 5 speed automatic transmission, overdrive OFF at 2,800 RPM @ 65 MPH. My trips include a one way from Iowa to San Antonio, East Texas, The Gulf, and to the Top of the Hill Country. Iv'e done some grades, but nothing mountainous, and....no problem, at all. However, it will be much different than towing your 2,000 lb tent trailer because the frontal area on the POD will introduce considerable drag. Your average gas millage is likely to be about 12.

I do recommend some kind of WDH and anti sway. Good luck, have fun!Thumbs Up
