We'll be at Agua Caliente County Park Jan 1 - 4.  it's a great place to camp in the winter.  It's closed in the summer because it's too hot, but the winter is great.  Cabins, tents, and partial- or full-hookups available.  There's an indoor naturally heated hot pool, hiking trails, exploring and more.  If you're looking for a winter campground, this is it!  We'll be in site 50 if you're going.

Interesting, you don't hear often of campgrounds that are closed in summer but open in winter, but in your area I can understand why.

I was a state park ranger in the land surrounding Agua Caliente from 1970-1972. When the flowers are out I Boondock in Anza-Borrogo Desert State Park. I covered a couple other patrol areas in that park. Any questions, I may have the answers. Love to hear what their current flower show is. Setting up to be an excellent flower year. Maybe places with miles of flower carpets.

Usually we boondock at Anza-Borrego, but when it's dark by 5 it's nice to have some activities such as bathing in a indoor hot tub or sitting by the camp fire (camp fires are not permitted in the park unless they're in a metal container and you carry our the ashes).

For a flower report I keep an eye on this page:
