Topic: coating? on new rpod? Posted: 31 Oct 2014 at 6:19pm |
Couch's tried that scam with us, too. Happily, our thoughts matched with the consensus here. Like I told 'em, I can hire a college kid to wax it for $50 & it'll be just fine. We did spring for a cover, though. Haven't used it yet. Spent the last 3 weeks taking delivery & doing some outfitting and, this weekend, we're camping!

Did you by chance get a flyer or brochure explaining the benefit of this coating? I'd love to see it.
As others have said, wax in summer, cover in winter.

Go to couchsrvnation.com. Drill down through RV Financing -> RV Protection Plans. "Xzilon Molecular Adhesion" is a short ways down the page.

There's a sales pitch video for Xzilon on YouTube via the Couch's link. No mention on exactly what's covered. No weasel words on what's not covered.
There's a similar product you can apply yourself made by Meguiar's, $40 for a half gallon. They really don't say how much surface area a half gallon should cover. Reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive. I take Amazon reviews with a grain of salt, but Meguiar's does make good stuff. Link below:
http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Mirror-Glaze-Synthetic-Sealant/dp/B000924QO0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=16879ZF3NBF73SE7J1NP
For the price, I might try the Meguiar's just for the heck of it, especially if I lived in the Southwest, but I personally would not pay for dealer applied Xzilon. Seems like most RV finishes (with the exception of decals as many of us know) should last the length of the 5 year Xzilon warranty period with just the most basic care before they start to deteriorate. I think what you're buying from the dealer for your $900 is essentially an insurance policy against finish damage.

I first used Xzilon when I purchased a new car in 2006. I had found out that this is what the dealer used, so I found it on eBay for around $30. A small can was enough to protect not only the new car, but my 2002 CRV and my boat that I use in the Indian River and inshore on the Atlantic. The Xzilon held up very well on all both cars and the boat. I currently have the product on my new car, my Chevy Avalanche and my 2014 178. Excellent results on all of them. Once the vehicle (or pod) is properly cleaned, Xzilon is extremely easy to apply.
Why pay hundreds of dollars to have a "protectant" applied to your pod when you can do the same thing for just a few dollars?

Hello, here is Pittsburgh,Pa we get some nasty winters and occasionally some scorching hot summer days. With that said," we use a product called Insulator Wax by Collinite." It's for Marine, Rv, Autos, Aeronautical and Industrial uses. I waxed my 2003 Tacoma truck with it when we got it in 2011 and haven't had to wax it since. The water still beads off and surface is still smooth and shiny. When we bought our pod in August this year we waxed it with the Insulator wax and bought a cover from amazon. All set and our baby is winterized and ready for the Pittsburgh winter. This stuff is amazing and only cost around $13, and it's easy to use. Only wax we use.
