I have a new pod with a slide out. My instructions were to check the top of the slide for obstructions before closing it up.
How do you get up there to check or clear obstructions? A 6' ladder seems appropriate, but takes up lots of storage space. Any ideas?

You can mount a mirror onto an expandable stick an view the top of the slide from that. If you have the mirror so it is removable to can then add a broom head or squeegee to it to clear off the top of the slide.

The best solution is to add the retractable awning over the slide. Search this forum for a thread on this subject. It keeps dirt, rain, snow, ice and sun off the slide. Any qualified RV shop should be able to make the mod if you don't want to yourself.

We price one of the awnings at our dealership and they start around $230 and go up to $400 plus installation.

I get by with a short 2ft aluminum stepladder.  It comes in handy for other things like starting my home-made awning in the rail on the other side....

I just carry a folding three-step "kitchen stool".  It is not tall enough to see the top of the slide, but I just
assume that there is debris there, and sweep the top with a broom before breaking camp.

We carry a 3 fold step ladder as well and I wipe it down.  Fortunately I'm tall enough with the help of the ladder to be able to see and make sure it's clean.  A step ladder should def do the trick for you.  Be safe out there.

I bought a section of vinyl carpet protector and cut it to the width of the slide top.  I roll this out when the slide is opened and pull it off just before closing.  I find a 3 step stool gives me all the height I need to reach the slide top.
