Topic: Follow-up to Black Tank Flush Posted: 26 Jul 2014 at 6:54am |
In a previous post, I had told of using black water tank flush and water appeared at the side of the shower stall along the trim, not much but enough for concern. Dealer discovered it was a check valve issue under the sink in bathroom. Tech in the shop said they found the best way to clean a tank is work on the inside with a wand. And to further eliminate problems, put 1/4 tank of fresh in black tank before using it.

1/4 tank of water to start is excessive. A few gallons, yes (3-4 full toil bowls full). Make sure the tank is at least 2/3 full before dumping it, and if you gotta go #2, fill the bowl at least 1/2 full and be prepared to flush more than once. That will ultimately do the same thing as wasting so much water to fill it at the start.

Thanks Doug. We probably won't put that amount. We'll be taking camper out of storage in the morning after towing it in yesterday with all the tornado watches. We were spared, but Claiborne Co got hit. See you are in MD. We came from St. Mary's County MD. Spent 28 years there.

We just came the other direction, doing a circuit of CO, UT, AT, WY, etc. Last year we went through TN since we did the southern states but this year we came back farther north. Happily no tornadoes. Several years ago on the way to FL we just missed 2 of them that crossed 95 about an hour behind us...
I went to MTSU for 2 years, by the way. |

Sounds like an awesome trip. I'm afraid I won't have the pleasure of such a trip. My husband does not like towing and would like to get back into a motor home, but these days on set income, that is not affordable. Plus fill-ups back then were around $75. Today over $300. :(
