Topic: Amenities Posted: 22 Jul 2014 at 6:33pm |
Alright well I'm not a newbie to camping but when it comes to have the amenities that my pod came with I am. That means the black, and grey water tanks, hooking up the water. After much reading and lots of good information I'm planning on giving it a try on the next camping trip. We've already gone on like 7-8 trips without using any of these features and that is not my intention. My next trip I'm going to have a direct sewer connect on site. This way I can go slowly and not feel like I'm holding people up in line. It will be a weekend trip so it should be interesting. If anyone has any tips that are commonly known and posted on the site I would appreciate them. I've read about waiting to emptying the grey tank for cleaning the sewage hose ect. I'm feeling fairly confident that this will go just fine. Thanks in advance!

marx: i am by no means an expert on this as I rarely (only once) have had full hookups. i think even if you do have (sewer), you should not empty until you have too, as you want to keep the black tank full of liquid for a good drain as well as the gray tank to flush the tube after the black. I guess since you have water though, you could just have the gray tank draining since you have accessible water to rinse everything out. i'm probbaly way off!!! hogone

When we have full hookups, I run extra water into the blackwater tank every time that we flush the toilet. We have yet to fill the blackwater tank. When it comes time to leave the campground, I empty the blackwater tank. Then I run more water into that tank using the flush valve on the toilet. Then I drain the black tank again, while gently rocking the pod on its stabilizing jacks. I repeat this until the water runs clear from the blackwater tank. I monitor this with a clear 5"adapter fitting the connects to the drain valves & then to the Rhino hose. After the blackwater tank is cleaned out, I then drain the graywater tank. And I finish it all up with rinsing the Rhino hose out with fresh water. I have had mixed results using the black tank flush & this way I only need one hose. The freshwater hose NEVER comes in contact with the Rhino hose, for the squeamish germophobes out there.....

I always empty both tanks when breaking camp. I fill the black tank the rest of the way using the flush system. Empty black tank and then repeat again. Once I have filled and emptied the black tank twice I will empty the grey tank. Once the grey tank is empty I flush / rinse the sewer hose with clean water from the fresh water hose that was used to connect the black tank flush. I have two garden hoses. One for use on the black water flush system and rinsing the sewer hose. The other garden hose is used for portable water. These are also stored in separate storage bins.

That's pretty much my routine, I rarely use my black tank flush unless I'm on full hookups though. But when I am I get it squeaky clean!

Well I got the water going and working this past weekend. It was pretty simple, even got the electric water heater going thanks to this site and the awesome information. We pulled in late Friday and I didn't feel like trying to play with the sewer connection so we decided that grey water would be it for us. It was nice, the pressure regular, filter, all of it was simple. I did this Saturday morning and it was simple taking my time to learn it all was def the way to go. I will continue to do it this way and learn as we go, one system at a time lol. Next will def be the sewer system as I feel confident that it shouldn't be much of a challenge now. Thanks again!
