Thanks for the Youtube link, it was very informative and the equipment and controller they show appears to match my 179.  I had no idea the drive motors on the slide were that small.  I will probably never have to manually close the slide in this fashion but it is sure nice to know how to do it should the need arise. It is a shame that this type of information is not readily provided by the dealer or with the literature that comes with the trailer.

There was also another interesting video link showing how to lubricate the Schwintek slide system:

Yup I was really surprised at it as well.  So far it doesn't seem to be a process that dealers are telling new owners about.  Thankfully Forest River clued some of us in on the process.

Very interesting.  Sorry for the misinformation.  This looks easier than the mechanism on my 176, if you know how to do it.  It looks impossible to figure out without a manual or some type of foreknowledge though!

I was curious about how to bring the slide in manually if there was no power so watching the utube video was very helpful.

Without checking the layout of the 179, it is probably on the right, as you look at the slide from the inside, behind one of the panels just above the floor.  It won't hurt to take that panel off to see what's there anyway.  Worst case you'll get a bit of an education and will have to take off another panel.

Does anyone know where the mechanism to manually operate the slide out on a 179 is located?
