Topic: Adding a Photo to Signature Posted: 25 Mar 2014 at 10:33pm |
What must I do to add a photo to my signature? I have sized one at 55kb and cannot figure out how to add it as an avatar or part of my signature block in my member profile.
Please help. Thanks, Vann |

First go into the Member Control Panel and use the File Manager to upload your picture. Make sure it is narrow enough in both directions that you don't trigger the automatic scroll bar(s) within the signature block (if you see them, try shrinking your pic a little and upload it again... mine is just tall enough that for some odd reason some times it gets a scroll bar, sometimes it doesn't). Once it is uploaded it shows you a link to your picture, you need to copy down that entire link.
Then in the Control Panel go to Profile Information section. You'll see a place where you can insert text and "BB Code" for your signature. Below is the raw text & code I use in my signature, you'll see where you need to change the link to your own picture. NOTE - I've added an extra space just after each opening bracket [ so the forum doesn't interpret this as another copy of my signature so you can see the code. If you use this example as a base for your own, remove the spaces.

Doug,
I copied the 2 lines of your signature block. I opened Profile and pasted it into the signature block. Then, I substituted the web address for my photo for your photo's web address. I hit save. I don't believe that changed anything. Vann |

You're missing a bracket ( [ ) there Vann.
5x5_9-13-13.jpg_Mobile.jpg/IMG] should be 5x5_9-13-13.jpg_Mobile.jpg[/IMG] Hope that helps. fred

Fred,
I added the space in front of /IMG]. Thanks for seeing that. It still doesn't work. Vann |

Hey Vann,
Get rid of that [ /URL], remove the space in [ IMG] and the space in [ /IMG] Put the line below Vann ~ '09 173 You might want to crop the image so it's a bit skinnier first. Your signature code should look like this when you are done: That's a picture, so don't try and copy/paste. It's just a guide. fred |

Vann,
Here's a cropped version of your image if you want to use it. http://www.rpod-owners.com/uploads/2297/vann-rig.jpg I've been writing code all day, so this is a nice distraction... fred

Yup, as I mentioned earlier you must remove the spaces after the opening [ brackets. I only added spaces so the raw code would show up.

Fred and Doug,
Thanks so much for your help AND for the cropped photo. I just realized what you were talking about, I think. In order to include a photo, I have to insert a place marker (BBCode) for a photo [img] at the beginning of the photo URL and again at the end of the photo URL. That tells the forum that I am inserting a photo from a web address. The place markers (or BBCode) indicate where the photo URL begins and ends. At any rate, I fixed it up with your help. Thanks again, Laura (the geek in our household) |
