Good to hear. We just made Sept reservations there. We are looking forward to less crowds after Labor Day.

We'll be fishing specks and red drum @ Assateague Island around the same time. If you hear someone yell, "Fish on!!!" just look north and wave!

We're going to OBX after Labor Day. It's like night and day before and after Memorial Day and before and after Labor Day. We much prefer the "off" season.
We are thinking of contingencies though in case of a hurricane. I figure early September is exactly when you'd plan to be in the OBX if you wanted to be there during a hurricane but didn't have a forecast. Thinking about northern NM & southern CO, the Dakatos, Lake of the Woods, Ontario, or anything else... For the OBX, and anywhere we have the choice, we like the NPS campgrounds as they seem quieter, have more room generally between campsites, and we can support the park system. Plus they are much cheaper with our senior passes now. We have a generator and one of those luggable sewage things, so hookups aren't much of an issue. We are seldom in camp when we are awake anyway. That argument works both ways though, I guess, for and against NPS campgrounds. Of the OBX NPS campgrounds, Billy Mitchell is our favorite, then Ocracoke. We like at least a little topography! TT |

Hey Fred,
We will be at Assateaque in Late September for a couple days before heading to Cape Hatteras for October. Hopefully will be chasing the red drum south. Have caught several of them over the last couple years, what a blast!!! Leo

There are KOAs around -- one very close to the Grand Ole Opry, which is centrally located enough to be a great base for touring Nashville. I know nothing about the KOAs, or any of the other campgrounds within a hundred miles though. I suppose the KOAs are mostly about the same....

We'll be in our new 178 On Sept 6th and 7th at Hatteras KOA...We got the pull thru because the website said it was best sites there. And the prices were the same for pull thru or back in ( full hookup). Are we doing right with that choice? We are also coming from Richmond area so if a hurricane approaches, we'll be close enough to home to judge going or not. We are very excited and will go on our first trip in the 178 tomorrow...heading to Kerr Lake and a federal campground. Been there lots in the popup and love it. Highly recommend North Bend recreation area at John Kerr Resivour.
