Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at the  Pirateland Family Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach SC.

Also interested in the fall fishing in the area.

Thanks

I've never been to Pirateland myself, but discussions about the resort do come up regularly on other forums I visit; there are always very divisive opinions about Pirateland.  Generally, the arguments swing from tiny sites/too many people/too expensive on the one hand to absolutely incredible/centre of the action/highly recommended/we come here year after year on the other.

Generally, I've observed over the years that those who stayed on the less expensive inland sites give poor reviews, while those in the premium sites (particularly the oceanfront sites) give very good reviews - but its hardly a scientific analysis.

I encourage you to visit RV Park Reviews (one of the better review sites around which tends to have a wide range of campers submitting reviews) and see what visitors to Pirateland have to say.

Haven't stayed there, but have driven through checking it out as a possibility. I'd say it depends on what kind of camping you like to do. Sites are too close for our liking, but then again we like to be out in national and state parks. Overall though it looked like a nice place, and it has a ton of amenities both in it and nearby to it.

Thanks P&M!  One of our favorite places to go is the KOA in Rodanthe..........great location and outstanding surf fishing. Lately we have been staying there for October and am looking for something close to go to for November.
Thanks for the info!!

We have not stayed at Pirateland, but at the KOA on Hatteras Island. Surf fishing is awesome in the Fall. Haven't been to Outer Banks in 10 years. Definitely over due a trip East.

Pretty much all the privately owned campgrounds in the Myrtle Beach area are overcrowded with very small sites.
I much prefer the state parks along the coast.   Personally I detest the entire Myrtle Beach area due to the crowds, but that is just me.  Apparently lots of people don't mind though!

One tip-  use google earth or bing maps to inspect aerials of potential campgrounds, that can be very telling about what you are getting into.Smile
