We just returned from three nights at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center StatePark in White Springs, Florida. Highly recommended!
Our primary motivation was to observe the Holiday Lighting Spectacular which
runs from December 1 to January 3, (closed Christmas night). It was as
advertised. Six million lights! Multiple full grown live oak trees encircled from
ground level to branch tips- gift and crafts village lit up like multiple gingerbread
cottages. Light ropes cascading from the Carillon Tower which rang out holiday
tunes. All the grounds decorated for the season.
And the camping facilities? First rate sites with electric / water- new, clean
bath houses, friendly rangers- just the normal excellent Florida State Park
experience with the Stephen Foster Museum and Carillon as a bonus.
We brought some holiday decorations for our R-Pod, not knowing whether it
was considered "tacky" or not. As it turned out, almost all of our camp neighbors
were decked out in Christmas splendor, and our efforts, while tasteful and
appropriate, were far from extravagant by comparison. I'll try to post a picture
or two if I can get them transferred from my iPad. (Our loop was the winner,
decoration-wise!!)
All in all a great time, and almost guaranteed to stir up some Christmas spirit
in even the most jaded of Grinches.
Merry Christmas from Florida.
