Topic: 2014 178 Rear TV Posted: 06 Nov 2013 at 4:02pm |
I found this on Forest Rivers R-Pod FaceBook page and was surprised that the new 178 pods retain the drop-down TV combo unit above the rear bed. It was my understanding that this feature has been eliminated.
My new 178 won't be in until Nov. 15. I know several of us have already received the new model. Can someone advise if the rear TV unit is still included? Bob _______________________________________________________________________________Rpod by Forest River FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION ABOUT THE NEW RP178: We have had many calls from dealers and retail customers both inquiring about the TV/Entertainment options in the RP178. The brochures that were printed and sent out to our dealers and posted on our website ACCIDENTALLY omitted the overhead cabinet/entertainment center on the RP178. (Noted on 177 as "OHD ENT CTR") The floor plan DID correctly identify an additional "Entertainment Center" on the left side of the entry door. THIS is where the confusion comes in. The exact same "OHD ENT CTR" above the bed of the RP177, IS also above the bed in the RP178. This is the location of the flip down tv, and where the AM/FM/CD/DVD Combo is located along with Antenna/Satellite connections. THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE that the CD/DVD combo is available from the factory. The "ENT CTR" located on the left side of the entry door DOES have hook ups for Antenna & Satellite and the factory DOES offer a 2nd TV option of a 19" flat screen. HOWEVER - in order to watch DVD's on that TV, in that location - you will have to supply your own DVD player for the TV and also your own stereo/CD player. Regardless if you opt for the combo above the bed or not. This model, the RP178 was introduced because our owners and dealers asked for a larger dinette in the RP177. Doing so, meant we had available space inside the door. We opted to offer the same "space" available in the RP182G. Our "survey" of dealers & owners, as well as the undeniable popularity of the RP177, determined that the tv over the bed was a necessity and needed to stay in that location because most campers only watch tv after daytime activities end. We decided to add the ant/sat connections to that "open space" as a convenience, in the case that an owner did want to add a second tv where antenna and/or satellite reception was possible. The confusion is due to the "entry" being identical to the 182G where there is a full hook up available (due to garage tv location) COMBINED with the brochure printer (100% accidentally) omitted noting/printing the OHD ENT CTR above the rear bed. Hopefully this will help alleviate some of the confusion. However, PLEASE feel free to ask any additional questions you may have. ALSO - for those of you reading this that are members of some or all of the other r.pod sites - PLEASE feel free to post this on those sites as well. And - as always ~ HAPPY PODDING ~ |

Since this was posted in Feb. 2013, I am wondering if FR is referring to the 2013 178 and not to the 2014 model. Instead of clearing up confusion, it seems that FR is creating more.

We took delivery of an RP-178 in Sept 2013. It was titled from Forest River as a "2014" Yes, it has the small Combo FM/AM/TV/DVD unit hanging under a small cabinet over the rear bed. It works OK, BUT:
Some would find this very disappointing but my wife & I use the 'Pod to get away from the news and TV. If you're ordering a new Pod, and the FM/AM/TV/DVD combo is a deleteable item I'd recommend you save the money. |

Hi, we have a 177 ordered and should also be here sometime
in Nov. In order to see how it will look
I go to Rv web sites that post pic of their new units. I found your 178 at blue dog rv. They had a few late models but the stock
#131554 one showed what you’re looking for.
The tv and stereo is on the left wall as u enter the pod. There is no cabinet or tv in the bed
room. In order to watch tv from bed u swivel
the tv mount arm around. The 177 has a new cabinet for the Jensen stereo/dvd player (
no tv) mounted high above the bed on the left of the sink. Lazydaysrv.com has a good pic of this one. The color is java the same as we ordered. If you look you will find the pictures of the exact model
and color you have ordered. |

I looked at the pic again and they didn't show the bed area by the bath wall. So maybe they mounted a tv over there.

I received "clarification" of what my 2014 178 has in the way of entertainment centers. With the Crown Package I will have the entire entertainment center to the left as you enter the pod. This includes a Jensen radio, CD, DVD system with separate indoor and outdoor speakers and a Jensen 19" LCD television mounted on a swing arm. There will be no entertainment center above the rear bed. I will be replacing the 19" LCD TV with a 24" LED model that has a built-in DVD player, using the provided swing arm. I will have to drill new mounting holes in the swing arm so the TV will be centered in the entertainment cabinet and so the TV will swing, facing the rear queen bed.
This is the arrangement I wanted, and it was my understanding that there would be no drop down entertainment center above the bed. Like I said earlier, the FR "clarification" actually created confusion about the 178 configuration. Thanks you for the comments. Bob |
