Topic: Pod cover for winter storage Posted: 15 Oct 2013 at 4:39pm |
I finally got the cover on I purchased from Northern Tools this spring with a test fit this PM. Fits my 176T like a glove. Very happy. My storage location is 3 miles down the road. Does anyone think I can drive at 40 MPH with the cover on ... or should I take it off? Any experience out there?

I wouldn't recommend towing with it on. We have the same cover and besides having the lights all covered up (which is somewhat illegal) the fabric isn't extremely durable and can tear/rip pretty easy. Especially on the sharper corners and edges that can be found on the Pod, like the fenders.

I plan to drive mine tomorrow to a storage lot. The cover can be raised up over the fenders, and I'll tape up to expose the lights. Took me too long to pull it on to think about taking it off, driving 5 miles, and putting back on. Besides, I need my two ladders!

not if you know how to put on the cover right.....i usually put the cover back on if i have the rpod to stay in my backyard for more than 3 weeks time....
here is my trick at putting the cover on...should take 5 mins
1) locate the front of the cover
2) open the zips at the back end (where the spare tire is) of the cover, so that it pulls in much easier
3) take the whole cover, front facing somewhat front and dump it on top of the AC housing and the dish TV thingy....these are the two major part which makes the putting on the cover hard...
4) once u have the cover somewhat over the AC hosuing..start tugging along the front a little bit and then the do the same at the back....
there ur done....the trick is to put the cover to start with on the top of the AC housing

I found the perfect, one-person cover "put'er on'er" tool! Using a ladder, I throw the cover on top and use this to lift and move around cover until I can pull it down the sides. I also just used it to remove the cover by pushing the cover up from the back to the top of Pod before pulling it down to the front (gently). It's rounded plastic tip, with soft bristles doesn't tear the cover.
It's also a dust / cob-web remover with extendable pole.

I tied ropes on one side of mine in the grommets, tossed the ropes over and pulled the top up and over, did have to get on a ladder to get it over the air conditioner. Then taped up the back so the lights could be see and drove it to the rv storage for the winter. Simple!

I towed Pod to storage with cover removed (buck! buck!).
In its winter berth, I put the ladder up and had to try three times to get it to stay on in a 2-5 mph wind gusting to 10. What a pain! Will wait for calmer weather next time.

Furpod, sorry for the blank response. Posted without message by error. We first heard about the Northern Tools cover from one of your posts. We have just purchased and received ours from Northern Tools for our 2014 - 177. Did you remove your TV antenna to install the cover? Our antenna looks easily removed. I don't have the name of our antenna type but it's a long and narrow antenna (not a dish) which looks pretty delicate. Thanks for any help with this.
