What exactly is the difference between an r-pod abd a Hood River edition r-pod? Is there a cost difference?

Hood River Edition is only available west of the Mississippi.. I am sure there is some MSRP difference, but hard to say what people are actually paying.

HRE gets bigger wheels, larger tires with a more aggressive tread pattern, they ALL have axle risers, and diamond plate front lower paint/body protection. They were also the 1st pods to have the black trim option.

I guess I have Hood River Light -- axle riser and black trim, but no diamonds .....

From what I have seen online it appears that the HR editions run around $2k more than the regular ones.

I think I'd be willing to drive a bit to get the Hood River Edition.  It's not West of the Mississippi by the way, because I can't get it in Texas.  Really wish those options were available here...
