Would love to hear how well the Pathfinder does in mountain driving, and what kind of mileage you get.

I have a 2013 Pathfinder w/ Tow Package and it does extremely well up mountains in WVA. The CVT is extremely smooth and since it has no gears, it doesn't spend time searching up down the range as a regular transmission would. My only complaint is the soft rear suspension. With a WDH it's not bad, but there are no aftermarket upgrades available.
Mileage towing varies between 12-14 MPG

Thanks, Im considering an SUV V8 king cab type PU, but the V6 Pathfinder sounds like a good possibility.

I live in the mountains of Southern California. The Pathfinder does well climbing up to 5000 foot elevation then starves for oxygen and power drops to max of 45 mph on freeway climb. But it still gets up there. Gas millage for a pathfinder is 24mpg avg unloaded and 14 mpg pulling trailer up the hills. The next test is this big trip coming with climbs to 9000' elevation campgrounds. I'll let you know then. As for the suspension, it seems the 2015 model is beefed up as there is little to no impact of loaded tong weight on the TV.

If the V8 PU is your other choice, then the Pathfinder would not be my first choice... just sayin'
