Definitely better to use a high octane fuel when towing. It will help with getting maximum HP and reducing pre-detonation under heavy load conditions.

The rest of the time, use the lowest grade the vehicle is recommended for and save some money. A high octane fuel will not yield any appreciable increase in fuel economy, you'll only see the difference in your wallet.

That is pretty good mileage for towing!

LOLWe are fairly new to this but have posted a few times. I don't have a great picture as yet but will post one when I do.

I just wanted to say that it has taken us a while to name our pod but here it is. We will be having two Corgis traveling with us so our name is Hairy Podder.

Great picture and good looking rig emckinley.

In my experience dragging a 178 across country and back and up and down with my 4Runner, regular gas was the most economical. I have experimented with premium and it did improve mileage, but it wasn't worth it. Sorry, I didn't keep the math, but it became pretty obvious...for me...with my TV.

Have fun!

Was the 4Runner naturally aspirated or turbocharged? Ford specifies premium gas with the 2.0L Ecoboost engine when towing. I would not want to risk using regular, especially in mountainous terrain. If it was flatlands and lower speed, then it might be okay.

I think it breathes just normally. No Turbo. I did try a couple of tanks premium crossing Wyoming. We did get a little better mileage, but it wasn't worth it. Just my experience.

Okay. If I had a naturally aspirated engine, then I would probably stick with regular also. Actually, I would rather have a Diesel, but the Escape suited our budget better.
