Finally got a picture or our new pod with tow vehicle. Been getting it ready for our first outing. The 2015 171 is being towed with 2013 Toyota Tacoma with off road towing package. It pulled the pod 2.5 miles up the gravel mountain with the first mile and half at an average 6 degree grade and the last mile is an average 16 degree grade without any problems. Sure glad it came with the risers for that last mile. The hardest part was getting it turned around in the driveway. We have a narrow driveway on the side of a mountain. But planning ahead and getting a two wheel tow dolly did the trick.

When we had our 178 we were pulling it with a Honda Ridgeline that had 5000 lb capacity. We added E2 and sway bars. It really evened out the ride and also much less problems when being passed by trucks.

We moved from a Rav4 Sport to a GMC Sierra. We used a WDH with sway bars with the Rav. It was so low speed bumps were a problem. Other people using Ravs and Vans told us of similar issues. I bought the pickup and the difference is terrific. Relaxing and stress free drive. I took the Pod back to the dealer, Campkins RV, to have the hitch adjusted. The extension for the height difference was $200 (Canadian which is likely $50 Amer. ) but a lift kit is only $150 which solves many issues for us! They are a very helpful dealership. With the hitch and bars the Pod follows us effortlessly. For us the cost was well worth it. Rick

You will definitely need a sway bar but a new hitch? Not likely unless it's just a different height draw bar.

Rick, we just bought a 177 Pod and are towing it with an FJ Cruiser, rated for 4853 lbs. The salesman sold us on a WDH and an anti sway bar. The mechanic who installed it thought it was overkill but we would rather have more than not enough. You will require a different hitch to accomodate the anti sway bar. I had a standard hitch with a 3 inch drop but it wouldnt work as you need a separate ball for the anti sway bar.

I've got a 2011 Ford Explorer with a towing package and 6,800 pound towing capacity. Do I need anti-sway bars and a different hitch installed like the R Pod dealer recommended?

I'm considering a Model 179. I have a 2011 Ford Explorer with a towing package. Do I need anti-sway bars and a different hitch installed? The R Pod dealer says I should have them.

Hello, fellow Canadian! We just towed our 'Pod home from Edmonton. The Jeep didn't like it so much, but I'm sure they will quickly become friends and we'll have many great adventures together. Looking forward to exploring BC this fall - around the Jasper / Valemount area. I'll give a wave when I see you! Cheers - Eric |
