We just returned from our second major outing. Three Florida State Parks, 12 days, 1404 miles, and 4 RPOD sightings. The FL park system is really great. Well maintained, clean, and a great web reservation site.

Three nights at Manatee Springs SP, four nights at Tomoka SP with one 2010 RPOD in the campground, and four nights at Fort Clinch SP with one 2010 RPOD in the CG. One unattached 2010 RPOD in a CW parking lot and one 2013 RPOD on a roadside dealer’s lot. Not sure if new or used.

All went well, but I had to disassemble and reinstall the E2 hitch. So much for dealer installation. The sway brackets were installed upside down so they would not stay in place on the frame. I turned them over, but didn’t have the big wrenches to completely readjust the hitch. Hence I was slightly over compensated on the way home. I drove VERY carefully.  All‘s well that ends well and I am resetting the hitch now. Also, still learning how to keep the gray/black water level indicators working properly.

Nice to live in Florida where we can camp without snow.

Manatee Springs is our "home campground", being just about 40 minutes from the Key. We are headed
there in about three weeks for a couple of nights.  Fort Clinch has been highly recommended to us and
is definitely on our list.  I'm unfamiliar with Tomoka, but I'll look it up on the State Park web page.

We are keeping a close eye on Silver Springs as the State moves toward taking it over from the commercial
operator.  That could end up being a camping paradise!

+1 for the Florida State Park system!

Silver Springs is (probably) world famous for the glass bottom boat tours, holiday lighting extravaganzas,
live music concerts, (mostly Country artists), plus other rides and attractions.  The State of Florida has
contracted out the operation of the park to a commercial operator who held the contract for many years,
and was slated to run it for fourteen more years.  (That could be wrong, but there was some significant
time remaining on the contract.)

The operators must have felt that they were holding a bad deal, because they have agreed to pay the State
multi-million dollars to "de-commercialize" the park, which ostensibly means tearing down many of the
rides and attractions that don't fit the image of Florida State Parks.  Hopefully, some of the iconic stuff
will remain, like the glass bottom boats.

The park will then be folded in with an adjacent property that is already in the State Park System.  I
haven't heard any specific plans for campgrounds, but I'm very hopeful.

Silver Springs is near Ocala, just east if I recall.

We will be in Cedar Key for a week starting the 14th of this month in our 177.  LOVE Cedar Key!  Staying at Sunset Isle.

While you're at Sunset Isle you will have the Ada Blue restaurant right there on site, but one or two
days you should head on into town a little ways and have breakfast or lunch with Gypsy Edie and Joe
at Kona Joe's Island Cafe.  Joe and Edie are 177 owners and Forum members.

About eight miles outside of town on State Road 24 you may notice a large green steel building which
is where our 177 "hibernates" between adventures.  We'll be at Manatee Springs on the 18th for a
few nights.

Oh, that Silver Springs.. Gottit! No I didn't know any of the current politics behind it, but I have meant to get up there with the kids for a couple years now.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like a fun trip. We're looking forward to heading down to Florida for a week or two. Two recent trips were 'delayed' so we're getting anxious. I can't even remember the last time I went to Silver Springs. Maybe 45 -50 years ago.

We have been living in our RPod for almost two months up in Jacksonville while my husband gets proton treatments at Shanks. We try to get back to Ft. Myers when we can. This Monday, April 8th, we were heading back to Jacksonville and our RPod. While driving east on Route 10, an RPod, a new one, was pulled past us going west! That is the first one I have seen in Florida.
