Hello Podders. This is my first attempt at uploading images. I hope it works.
Current R-Pods lack any interior 12 sockets even though most people have cell phones, music players, GPS mappers, or satellite radios that require 12 volts for operation or charging. The following pictures show how I installed four sockets in the dinette area of my 172. Although this solution is specific to the RP-172 the idea is applicable to other models. Slide-out models may limit access to the microwave cabinet, but anyplace you can get access a wall and a wire path back to the power converter should work. ![]() After removing the microwave there is plenty of room behind to mount and wire the sockets. The existing hole for the shower pipes was used to wire the sockets to position 9 on the power converter below the dinette seat. Number 10 AWG wire was used and a 20A fuse installed. ![]() ![]() ![]() The sockets are Blue Sea model 1011 available from Amazon. They can be mounted through hole as I did or surface mounted if rear access is limited: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-1011-12V-Socket/dp/B001U4ZZPK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_1 As an engineer, two must have 12V plugins for the sockets are the Equus battery monitor and Mediabride High Output USB charger. Voltmeters are always better than lights. Both are available at Amazon: Good luck to all. |

Question:
Why didn't you just run the wire straight down behind the fridge.

A bit harder since it would require another hole, access behind fridge is more difficult, exit through the cabinet floor behind fridge is unknown, and the wire has to cross the cabinet anyway because the 12 volt terminals are on the right side of the converter. Either way will work.

All you have to do is remove the ext. fridge panel, drill a hole through the floor, the space under the fridge is wide open.

Nice mod. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you figured out the picture bbcodes. One thing that is not obvious maybe is that if you move the pictures from where ever the links now point, they wont appear in the postings any longer.
I managed to do that myself once an had to clean up afterwards. ;-) |

How would I do the equivalent in a 178? What wiring am I looking for? The dealer said they could do it for $150 but I'd rather do it myself.
