the second battery would allow you to go 6 days instead of three.. The generator allows you to go longer, as long as you have gas. With a second battery, you would literally use half as much gas in the genny over time, because you would store twice as much energy, while charging in the same amount of time.. (both batteries charge at the same time)

Was either going to go that route or a generator - - bit the bullet and got the generator. Our single Group 27 (Interstate Deep Cell) was already gettingg us through 3 days of camping and with the generator to top it off now and then I think we're set. Not sure what the second battery would do for us specifically. Plus the generator gives us more flexibility. Only downside is    ...you've got to feed it gas !!

I really appreciate it.  We have yet to head out in the RPod as we live on a lake and it is too nice in the summer to leave it.  So we are busy doing modifications.  After owning several previous RV's, we know what we use and don't use when we go camping.  Having the 12 volt, will help us go off the grid for a couple of days.  Thanks again!

I should mention that the CPAP unit I use for camping/travelling is smaller and draws less power. It is made by ProBasics and called the "Zzz-PAP". I bought it on-line at CPAP.com. Here is the link to the site/unit.

Can you tell me specifically how you set up the 12 volt outlet? My husband has a CPAP and we would like to not be limited to full hookup campsites Thanks

=====================

There are a number of locations to tie in a 12V receptacle, but not all of them are "hot" all the time. I use mine to monitor the battery level (with a small digital voltmeter) so I wanted it fairly close to the "source" (battery). As part of my front bench mod, where I put in a divider to gain back some storage, I connected the Red/Black wires of a "fused" 12V receptacle (Radio Shack ...$8) to the wires leading from to the propane alarm (because they were close AND they are always HOT. I recently decided to add a second 12V receptacle in the seat base on the other side of the dinnette    ...and I used the same tiein location.

For my CPAP, I plug in a coiled 12V extension cord (extends to around 6 feet). Then I plug a small inverter (Also Radio Shack) that has sufficient output to drive the little fan in the unit) into the inverter output     ...and I drift off to sleep. Have camped several times for 2-3 days (withouth a power hook-up) and the Pod battery holds up fine. We now have a Honda generator so that I can top off my battery while we are making breakfast/dinner or as needed during the day.

Enjoy the Pod!

In our 171 the first owner tapped into the supply for the shower light that runs under the bed for an outlet by the bed.
