Topic: Best barbecue for RPoddingl Posted: 27 Jul 2012 at 12:43am |
Recently returned from an awesome 2900 mile journey from Omaha, NE to Evergreen, CO, Grand Tetons, the Yellowstone. We used our electric skillet outside to cook steaks, chops and chicken, however, we would love to purchase a small propane, or electric barbecue. I have seen the Baby Q propane on Amazon, just not to sure about propane.
Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Vallgrl |

My Coleman Roadtrip LX may be larger than you are looking for, but it does a great job for me. It fits (barely) in the outside storage compartment of our RP 175. It has both a large griddle and grill, We use it with a small propane bottle when camping, and have a hose to hook up to a 5 gal. tank at home. It comes with a nice stand for use at home, but we don't take the stand with us when camping. It is now the only grill we have/need for home and camping.

I'm a charcoal guy both at home and away. I use a Weber "Go-Anywhere" charcoal when we're camping:
It's only $50, it works great and fits inside the pass-through storage.

We have one also. Have had it for years. Works just fine. After the second season the igniter died, but easy to light with match. Safe Travels.

We went out and bought a Weber Q120 when we got the pod for the easy cleanup. The newer model Q120s have a taller dome and thermometer.
I personally prefer lump hardwood charcoal but for cooking things quickly on the road the propane grill is easier. At home we use the Lodge Sportsman Grill. If weight and cost is not an issue, and all you're doing is grilling steaks, I heard good things about the Mini Green Egg ($300) and also the Cobb Grill $100 (the latter has some sort of Teflon coating). FYI, all the above don't fit in the side cargo compartment without the lids being detached. |

I have the Weber baby Q and love it. It fits under my storage seat compartment, under the dinette table. I tend to use the grill for most of the cooking, except for the morning eggs and sausage which I do on the cooktop.

We love our little Smokey Joe. Can get a good hot fire from a dozen briquettes. We have even used it as a fire ring when one wasn't available!
