Ya we have used ours as a tray to carry things outside to a picnic table at a rest stop for example. It is such a usable addition and costs so little. Sure am glad FR didn't ruin our fun of DIY'ing by providing such a obvious addition to the galley as part of the basis pod ...

Looks great. I just used a piece of scrap plywood from a home being built nearby, already cut to the right size (lucky, might have been a sink cut out) and sitting in a dumpster, sanded and polyurethaned it, set the legs the same way. Works perfectly as a cutting board, tray to carry stuff outside, food prep surface, etc.

We did the same thing but with a narrower board. We stuck some wine corks on the the existing legs as they were not quite tall enough and a thin cork placemat on the underside to help with any residual heat from the stove after use.
The bamboo cutting board we chose needed to be oiled before use. We also see the same cutting board at a TJ Maxx for between $12.99 and $14.99 on occasion. |

Looks great! I was just in Wally-World this weekend looking at cutting boards for just that purpose! Since this "mod" is done by so many campers/RV'ers, it really makes you wonder why it is not standard on every unit.

Thanks for the comments. I made it a couple Weeks ago. It has traveled well from VA to PA to MD and back to VA ... about 500 miles. It stayed in place fine. The trick I didn't mention was carefully postioning the legs so they all gently rest against the stove sides. I was prepared to put on 8 legs, two at each corner. But because of the shape of the stove, only 4 were needed.

YAST- love it!
Very neat. Made mine the same way - I think even the same cutting board. But without the rubber feet. It had a tendency to slide around (and off) so I put the legs at the corners to hold it in place. Let us know how yours rides. |
