DAVID: what microphone is that in your picture?  It looks like my MXL model V67.  I have that plugged into a Behringer Ultragain Pro Tube Preamp Mic2200.

Don't have any wooden box radios anymore    ...but I do still have my very first Zenith "transistor" radio (Circa late 50's) in a leather snap on case with a "single ear" phone - - yes, it was the pre-stereo era. AM only but back then that's pretty much all we listened to anyway.

I wish I still had my Heath Kit "Ocean Hopper" it was a super regen and once you learned the tricks to the regen control it had really good gain. It had a little trap door on top where you hand changed coils for different bands, I used to set in the attic of my grandpas hatchery building on the farm and spend hours tuning in the Ham bands, my Prized log entry was hearing Barry Goldwater, I think this was around 1960 or 1961, I still have my old "short wave" log somewhere, I would put date, time, call letters etc, There was not much to do on 116 acres 1 mile from the nearest house after dark so I went "ocean Hopping"

Opps, just googled ocean hopper, it was a "Knights Ocean Hopper" see what time does to the mind, I have built several Heath Kit things in years gone by, so it kind of all runs together as the years pile on. they say the mind goes first, not true its the legs and then the mind. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I'd kill (almost) for that Hallicrafters..........way too cool!  The mic is a Heil Goldline mic GM-4.  It has 2 switchable elements; one for full bodied sound and another with sharp rolloffs for contesting and DXing. It is on a boom that retracts when not in use.  Nothing "special" - they are currently in production.  Would love pictures of all of your old stuff! Smile

I take the Yaesu 847 and my antenna is the Yaesu ATAS 100 (motorized screwdriver).  The antenna is mounted to a 12' aluminum extending painter's pole.

I made an "L" bracket for the bottom of my tire carrier and the pole just slides in there.  On my wish list is a Tarheel antenna - so I can work 75-80 meters, too.  I don't bust thru too many pileups but I have had fun working some DX and the State QSO parties.  While I was at Shenandoah last month, I worked a few kids during the school club round up.....one of them (in South Carolina, I think) actually sent a QSL card and wanted one from me, in return. Smile  They all seemed to be having fun.

The rest of you are bringing back too many fond memories of building Heathkits, old regen radios, etc. Smile

But, alas, back to the remodeling dirt & mess.

My 1930's radio turned out to be a 1947 model.  My floor mode is 1938.  Just had things turned around a bit.

Here is my 1938 RCA (with the other one on top):
