Did my first mod on the pod today. I have the 2011-rpod 177. Ours did not come with a microwave and I always planned to put one in anyway. Only problem there was no outlet to plug into to.

Then I discovered an outlet inside the hanging cabinet over the stove top It was labeld microwave. Eureka!

So I carefully removed that angled panel to have a look see, and I saw this.

I then removed the outlet from the cabinet and turned it to face the opening above the refrigerator.

Carefully cut out the panel to accept the outlet. Then replace the panel and trim. Top and bottom trip were glued on. All done! Now it's time to go out and pick up a micro convection combo.

Another mod I can scratch off my list. I  created a small storage area under the left bench on my 177. Seems like a huge waste of space to have the control panel there a not utilize the extra space. Pretty easy to do. Also been hanging those 3M hooks, hope they stay on. First trip in a week or so.

Iteach5th,   have you put in the microwave yet?   We were wondering if there is enough room behind the microwave to plug into the plug if it is in the same cabinet?   We have a 175 and I believe that the microwave that came with ours has its cord running out a hole in the cabinet on the sink side and plugged into an outlet on the outside of the cabinet.    I am not at home to verify this and haven't really done much in it since last fall.    Just a thought as to why the plug may have been in the original position.   Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to put it in the cabinet.

Yes, I put in a Sharp Microwave/convection countertop model R-8208-B. There was plenty of room, I would double check your opening.

That's good.   We may have a different size microwave.  It came with the pod.   I wonder why they put the plug in the overhead cabinet???  That seemed silly.

It may be a building code issue, the one in our house has the outlet (single outlet like in the 'pod, definitely due to code) in a separate cabinet.  I will be converting my single outlet back to 2, though. Wink

Maybe so you can unplug it easily.....or quickly.....if needed....
or a moisture buildup issue...... just guessing.....
I can't even begin to describe it.... you would just have to see for yourself....
