This may be my favorite section of the forum! My brother and I love cooking and kinda competing while cooking at the campsite. My family camps alot together. we take up 4-6 or more sites on a regular basis. so we try to plan meals and share time with each other. We laugh because my dad (he has his own camper) just bums meals from everyone, he wanders from sight to sight with plate and fork in hand, especially breakfast time! our group has the best breakfasts at the campground.
honestly my brother is a better cook than I am, his meals are always over the top.  one meal we always seem to have when we all camp together is taco night. all the prep work is done at the house and we just set up a table and go at it. chips, hard shells, soft shells and every type of topping you could think of
does anyone else have a go to meal for camping? just curious. Its one of my favorite and exciting things while camping.

We do similar in that we prep a lot of our meals before leaving.  One of our go-to meals is called 'hobo dinner,' a mix of hamburger, onions, green and red peppers, and some seasonings which include 6 pepper blend and a big pad of butter.  It is double wrapped in foil and thrown into a fire that has a lot of hot coals.  Once you can hear it boiling inside for a few minutes it is removed from the fire and after giving thanks, consumed by us hungry campers.

Since we boondock a lot (no microwave/convection oven in our 177) we do a lot of grilling over charcoal.  I am a charcoal snob, food tastes so much better over charcoal than over a gas grill.  Certainly the gas grill is quicker and less messy, but I go for flavor and just the fun of cooking over charcoal.

I'm not sure if the hobo dinner packs absorb any flavor from the coals. We've done those over a gas grill and they turn out good. I'm not sure if we have a go-to meal. We have quite a variety of meals. Bacon, eggs, toast, coffee/tea, etc. are always one of the meals. Possibly sourdough biscuits or pancakes might go with that depending on how much time I have.

One of my favorites is a simple breakfast burrito. Simple mix of sausage, potatoes, onions, scrambled egg, and sharp cheddar wrapped in a giant tortilla. I can eat one of those breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Tortilla's are best if charred a little over an open flame.

A friend of mine gave me his Blackstone griddle, I have hauled it behind my van on my luggage rack and sat it up at the parks and had great fun cooking for everyone, I may use the little receiver on the back of my r pod to haul it camping.
