I have a new RP192.  How does one operate the water heater?  Is it both gas and electric?  Yes I know the salesperson should have shown us this.  We had it shipped to us from out of state. < ="text/" ="https:////www.rpod-owners.com/3573a675bb91940deb3a9fdd9bc861d5e19ca7d0dbf836479f42c53a114ea0d8/inject.js">

Thank you,

Dan

I have an older 177, so things may be different, so first step is to read your owners manual carefully.

But yes, the water heaters are both gas and electric, and they can do either independently (and both at the same time too for faster heating and recovery times).

So, that said, my first rule is NEVER, NEVER, NEVER turn on the hot water heater (gas or electric) until you are 100% sure the hot water tank is filled with water.

Your hot water tank could be empty if the water was drained, leaked out, it is in winter mode (bypassed), the anode rod was removed etc....numerous reasons why.  But you can do a lot of damage to the system heating an empty tank.

Make sure the hot water bypass valves are NOT set in winter mode....make sure water is flowing into and out of the hot water tank.  Either on city water (hose connection) or with fresh water tank filled (and using the pump) - get the hot water tank filled up by running opening up hot water taps in the kitchen and/or shower.  Once all the sputter stops...the hot water tank should be filled.

Only then, turn on the hot water switch (propane) and/or electrical element switch (mine is in the outside heater compartment) to start heating.  Using propane, I always go out immediately after to make sure the flame kicked in and operating.

Stay close by and check intermittently  for warmer water in the taps and also that there are no leaks (inside or outside).

Dan,

I have a new RP 196, and I think the 192, 193, 195, and 196 series all share the same appliances. My water heater can do both gas and electric. The button I have in my camper is for gas only. There is an ON/OFF button outside (see image) for electric.

All rpod water heaters have that outside switch for the ac heating element.  If you don't want to go outside to turn it on and off you can use the water heater circuit breaker in the electric panel instead. Turning it off will not effect the propane operation, they are two independent systems.

I think it's supposed to be a link, but it's not working.
